Beautiful Earth

Lisa fell in love with nature before she can even remember. Being an only child until she was united with her siblings later in life, she surrounded herself with animals. She loved the companionship of dogs especially, adoring how loyal and loving they are. She explains some of her best friends have been pets, ‘I believe animals bring people comfort and create positive energy. The planet would be a sad and lonely place without them.”

Nature has been an important focus throughout her photography career in many disciplines. This infatuation has prompted Lisa to explore animals in illustration, palaeontology and animal activism. Travelling has allowed her to find and photograph the weird and wonderful natural world. “There is nothing more graceful then watching animals in their natural habitat, wild and free. The adrenaline I get from seeing such emancipation fills me with excitement and gratification; I feel a sense of well being and peace.”

Photographing wildlife takes patience and discretion. Lisa describes; “it is the unpredictably and spontaneity that makes the opportune image, rare and extraordinary.  Elements such as light, shade, movement, colours, weather and seasons are always changing and evolving, reinforcing how each moment is special and unique.”

Lisa’s images of flowers can be compared to pieces of textiles, exploring interwoven textures and intricate detail. Also fascinated with insects, she often explores these subjects using a macro lens, “this allows us to zoom in on these tiny creatures and study their complex structure that look almost alien like and otherworldly. Bugs maybe viewed as insignificant or can be disregarded, however I feel that bugs are somewhat underrated, to me they are like little super heroes, able to change shape and form, to camouflage, to jump massive distances higher then themselves, even fly. A caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, a miracle in its self.”

Lisa, a fully pledged vegan conveys the sentiment of all living creatures within her work. “She believes animals should be celebrated as individuals just as humans like to be acknowledged, appreciated, respect and treated with kindness. Lisa decision comes from her compassion to create the least amount of suffering and pain in the world. “Photography is such a powerful tool, it has helped educate me in so many ways, I am thankful for its creation, for the people who use it wisely and for the wonderful things we have to photograph.”
